Ready Set GO!
"Is that a Photograph?"
Gamer's Hands
One of these things is not like the other.
I'm a little blue.
We feel a bit... "off".
Finish!
This little photo session went a lot faster then I intended. I ended up taking a LOT of pictures... most of them with mirrors. Oddly enough, only one of the mirror pictures ended up in the final five. These pictures were taken in my dorm because my roommate and I have a lot of unique stuff and the small area assured me that I had plenty of angles to work with. It was pretty fun, especially with my roommate giving me ideas. Personally, I love my "blue" photo because I got to take a whole bunch of stuff from the room and dump it on the floor.
There were a few instances where I wanted to use my bamboo plant (named "Hector") in my photos, especially for the surreal one, since I have taken a similar photo about two years ago for fun. In fact, it is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken:
I am no photography major nor have I the equipment to take good photos. In fact, I would not have been able to do this assignment if my roommate did not allow me the use of her iPod. However, I found this assignment pleasant and a nice break from other assignments I have done. Never have I been given an opportunity to do a project like this.
Actually, I think this would do well in my iSearch; maybe, I can compose a poem for one...
Blue
Scattered and Littered
Across the floor they do lay
Old and New memories
Something like this would be entertaining for students to do as well, write a short essay or a poem (or more) about the photos and see what happens. Eagerly, I wait to see what others have composed!
Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that students would love this. I was just spewing my excitement over my project to my bestie at work. And as Allie said, it's a great way to have even the most reluctant student actually do the work!
I really like that for your dominant colour you just grabbed all the blue around your room to create your own shades of blue. And I absolutely adore that Stitch is in there-he's my favourite Disney character! And the tardis!!! YES!!
I also like your carpet abstract picture, the awkward angle wind chime and gamers hands. You really did blitz; 11 minutes! But you got some interesting shots!
Your bamboo shot is art by the way, seriously! Frame it & put it up in MoMA!
Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jocelyn on that 2nd paragraph--I never thought to grab and move things around to do this project. Rather, I tortured myself to find things that were already perfect as they were. I love the awkward angle picture as well, it definitely threw me off a bit, which was the point!
Awesome job overall, and I'm glad it seems you enjoyed the project!
"Rather, I tortured myself to find things that were already perfect as they were." That is actually how I started off, the blue photo was NOT my original dominant color photo. I chose to do that later, because I had some time to waste but I ended up liking the picture more. I don't think either approach is more effective than the other, it's up to the photographer ('writer'). You were VERY successful with your photos.
DeleteDanielle,
ReplyDeleteI, too, like the way you gathered the blue around your room. It reminded me of a YA book called Gathering Blue (companion to The Giver). I especially like your reflection, where you invent the idea for this assignment as a poetry prompt. Love it! I know students would love it as well. You could also modify this assignment to be just about symbols---take a picture of a symbol for love, symbol for life and longevity, symbol for health, etc. Cool intro to a symbolism lesson! (I agree with Jocelyn about the bamboo photo...so good!)
I can really see your hobbies, interests, and overall personality coming through these pictures. Its almost like a map of yourself in a few frames in twenty minutes. There's a lot of character here, and for some reason I can picture you frantically running around you house trying to capture everything. Awesome job overall!
ReplyDeleteYou seemed to hit the nail on the head. I kept running in and out of my room trying to see if there were other things in the dorm itself I could take photos of. I probably drove my roommate insane! Thank you.
DeleteDanielle, I really liked your photos. We really got to see something about "you" in them, with your interests and tastes proudly on display.
ReplyDeleteI am happy that your "created" photos were more successful than mine. I started that way, and then decided to give up, relax, and let the "art" come to me for once. If I hadn't, I would have run out of time.
I loved the poetry prompt, and I might have to try my hand at that myself.
Also, I liked how the TARDIS is kind of following the photos around. It is by the first clock, in the blue photo, the controller is "TARDIS-blue," as is the dream-catcher, and if you look really closely in the last time photo, in the background of the game, there's a part of the wall (in-game wall, that is) that, on quick glance, looks like the TARDIS.
It is a nice effect. And the little figure in green connects most of the other photos together (the abstract could almost be her as well, if one were inclined to stretch).
Hmm.... Things are starting to come together........
Also, is that "Legend of Dragoon" I see in that last photo (the last BEFORE Hector, that is)?
Also, is that "Legend of Dragoon" I see in that last photo (the last BEFORE Hector, that is)?
DeleteYes, yes it is!
I love how you found connections in my photos that even I didn't notice!
Thank you!
Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI like how much thought you obviously put into each one of your photos! I especially like the blue one. I know I had trouble taking a picture of one color that wasn't just one thing (i.e. a green blanket -- how original!). But you incorporated a bunch of things of the same color, which is really cool.
I also really like the idea of taking a picture of someone else's hands, and you did a great job here. I like that the hands are in action and don't look posed or anything. Very organic.
Great job! :)
How'd you get such a clear shot of a digital clock? I kept on trying but they all came out blurry.
ReplyDeletestaying very VERY still
